Ouranoupolis yesterday .........
The jewel of the village was, and is the Byzantine tower. Built in the 14th century by the Vatopedi Monastery. In the 19th century, additional buildings were built and one of them is now the office of our community.
After the Asia Minor disaster refugees came from the islands of Marmara Propotida, and found shelter and protection in the tower, in the additional buildings and in tents.
In 1926 the first houses were built then the Church, these there are still to this day, the elementary school and so this small congregation was organized called. Later in 1960 it got from the final name.
In 1928 the tower from Mr and Mrs Lock was inhabited. This couple came from Australia here and was for many years the greatest help that could ever have this community. They had many women taught the art of the carpet (carpet weaving), they provided jobs and income for families.
In 1960, visited us the first tourists. It made roads, slow then there was also the electrical Strrom, and the first hotel was built with the name Xenia.
Ouranoupolis degree are now one of the main towns of the northern peninsula of Halkidiki.
It has 960 residents, has hotels, rooms, restaurants, cafes, 1 bar, shops with folk art, jewelry shops, pharmacy, doctor, Port Authority, Public School and the Church & Eleni Konstantinou.

In the spring cruises commence on Mount Athos. You can see some Monasteries of a certain distance. 2km from the village begins the border of the Holy Mount Athos. There, the monasteries "Fragokastro od. Zygou" excavated and many parts are to be admired.
2 miles from Ouranoupolis are the islands Drenia, with its beautiful beaches, one must visit. There is a restaurant, sun loungers and umbrellas, which are free for visitors.
